We begin by finding the slope the tangent line f(x) = 2x^2 at x=3. We find the slope by taking the derivative of f(x). We compute this derivative by evaluating the limit as delta x approaches 0 of [f(x + delta x) - f(x)]/delta x or, in this case, the limit as delta x approaches zero of [2(x+ delta x)^2 - 2x^2]/delta x.
